FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to common fencing questions from North Texas homeowners.
How much does a fence cost?
Fence costs vary by type: chain link runs $15-$30/ft, wood privacy fences run $25-$45/ft, and specialty fencing like pickleball courts runs $20-$40/ft. The total cost depends on linear footage, height, terrain, and materials. We provide free, detailed estimates for every project.
How long does fence installation take?
Most residential fence projects take 1-3 days. A typical 150-foot privacy fence is completed in 1-2 days. Larger or more complex projects may take 3-5 days. We'll give you a clear timeline before we start.
Do you remove old fences?
Yes. All of our pricing includes tear-out and disposal of the old fence. We handle everything from demolition to cleanup.
Do I need a permit for a fence?
Permit requirements vary by city. Most North Texas municipalities require permits for fences over 8 feet or fences in front yards. We check local codes for every project and handle permits when needed.
What type of wood is best for fences in Texas?
Cedar is the best choice for North Texas — it's naturally rot-resistant, insect-resistant, and handles our climate well. Pressure-treated pine is a good budget alternative. We recommend cedar for any fence you want to last 15-20+ years.
How deep should fence posts be set?
We set all fence posts a minimum of 2 feet deep in concrete — deeper for taller fences and corner/gate posts. Proper post depth is critical for withstanding North Texas wind.
Do you offer free estimates?
Yes! Christopher personally visits your property, measures the fence line, discusses your options, and provides a detailed written quote — all at no cost or obligation.
What areas do you serve?
We serve Valley View, Denton, Sanger, Aubrey, Pilot Point, Frisco, Celina, and communities throughout Denton County and North Texas. Call us to confirm we cover your area.
Do you build custom gates?
Yes, we build custom gates for every fence type — single walk gates, double drive gates, and sliding gates. Every gate is built to match your fence style and includes quality hardware.
What warranty do you offer?
We stand behind our work. All fence installations come with a workmanship warranty. We also honor manufacturer warranties on materials. If something isn't right, call us and we'll make it right.
Do you offer financing or payment plans?
We work with homeowners on a case-by-case basis. While we don't offer formal financing, we can sometimes arrange phased payments on larger projects. Most fence projects are affordable enough that financing isn't needed — call Christopher to discuss your budget and we'll find a solution that works.
How do I know where my property line is?
We recommend checking your property survey (usually received when you purchased your home) or contacting your county assessor's office. If there's any uncertainty, we can work with you to verify boundaries before installation. Building on the wrong side of a property line can lead to disputes with neighbors, so we take this step seriously.
Will my fence survive North Texas storms and high winds?
Our fences are built to handle Texas weather. We set every post in concrete at minimum 2 feet deep, use heavy-gauge hardware, and build to withstand 70+ MPH winds. Board-on-board and shadow box styles allow some wind to pass through, reducing stress on the structure. No fence is tornado-proof, but ours stand up to the vast majority of North Texas storms.
Can I choose my own fence height?
Yes, within local code limits. Standard residential fences are 6 feet in backyards and 4 feet in front yards. We can build 8-foot fences where codes allow (often requires a permit). Pickleball court fences are typically 10 feet. Christopher will review your local height restrictions during the estimate.
What is board-on-board fencing?
Board-on-board (also called overlapping or good-neighbor) is a privacy fence style where the boards overlap each other instead of sitting side by side. This eliminates all gaps for complete privacy and looks great from both sides. It uses slightly more material than a standard privacy fence but provides superior privacy and wind resistance.
Do you do fence repairs, or only new installations?
We do both. Whether you need a few boards replaced, a leaning post fixed, storm damage repaired, or a gate rehung, we handle repairs of all sizes. If the repair cost approaches 40-50% of replacement cost, we'll let you know so you can make an informed decision.
How do I prepare my yard for fence installation?
Clear the fence line of debris, move any movable objects (planters, toys, furniture) at least 3 feet back from where the fence will go, and trim any bushes or tree branches along the line. Mark any sprinkler heads or underground utilities near the fence path. We handle everything else including utility locating through 811.
What's the difference between a $25/ft and $45/ft privacy fence?
The main factors are wood type (cedar vs pine), fence height (6 ft vs 8 ft), style (standard vs board-on-board), and post material (wood vs metal). A basic 6-foot pine privacy fence is around $25/ft. A premium 6-foot cedar board-on-board fence with metal posts and cap/trim runs closer to $45/ft. Both are quality fences — the difference is in materials and style.
Can you match my existing fence style?
In most cases, yes. If you need a section replaced or extended, we'll match the wood type, board width, spacing, and style of your existing fence as closely as possible. Keep in mind that new wood won't perfectly match aged/weathered wood in color, but once stained, the blend is usually seamless.
Do I need to be home during installation?
You don't need to be home the entire time, but we do need access to the work area. Christopher will coordinate with you before the project starts to ensure gate access and discuss any specific instructions. We'll contact you when the job is complete for a final walkthrough.
What happens if you hit a utility line or sprinkler during installation?
We call 811 before every project to have underground utilities marked. This free service identifies gas, electric, water, and cable lines. For sprinkler systems, we ask homeowners to mark sprinkler heads near the fence line. If we do encounter an unmarked line, we stop work immediately, assess the situation, and resolve it before continuing.
Do you work in the rain?
We don't install fences in active rain — wet conditions compromise concrete setting and make conditions unsafe. If rain is forecasted, we'll communicate with you about scheduling. Light morning dew or overcast skies are fine. We won't sacrifice quality for speed, so occasional weather delays are possible during rainy weeks.
Can you install a fence on a slope or hill?
Yes. We handle sloped terrain regularly in North Texas. There are two approaches: stepped (fence panels step up/down the hill in a staircase pattern) and racked (fence follows the slope at an angle). Christopher will recommend the best approach for your specific terrain during the estimate.
How soon can you start my fence project?
Our typical lead time is 1-2 weeks from signed estimate to start date, depending on season and workload. Spring and fall are our busiest seasons. For emergency repairs (storm damage, safety concerns), we prioritize faster scheduling. Call Christopher for current availability.
Do you pull permits?
Yes. When a permit is required by your city, we handle the entire permit process — application, site plans, fees, and final inspection. You don't have to deal with any of the paperwork. The permit cost is included in our estimate so there are no surprise charges.
